We got confirmation today from Dr. Sokhn that based on my Oncotype score of 21, the recurrence rate of my cancer is low enough that chemo will not be necessary. We were very relieved to hear him say that as he went over the report very thoroughly with us at my appointment. I will start endocrine therapy (Tamoxifen) in pill form that I will take for 5 years and go back to see Dr. Sokhn in a month to see how I am tolerating the medication and then 3 months later and then every 6 months afterwards (provided everything is continuing to go well). We finished our appointment just in time to make it to Mason’s first High School Soccer ⚽️ game! It was nice to do something “normal” for a change (if we can even still use that word anymore) and see him out on the field for the whole game. While they lost 0-2, Mason said he felt like they played a good game and that’s what counts! I’m still dealing with some pretty significant discomfort from my expanders as I heal. Today it’s my left side. I told Tim I felt like it was going to poke thru my skin it hurts so bad. We go see Dr. Hulsen on Thursday so hopefully he can help or give me some suggestions as to how to relieve it or do something to help it. Otherwise, I’m pretty sure that Tim and the boys will want to be temporarily relocating from our house to escape from my complaining. 🤬 We are so thankful that things continue to move in such a positive direction for us and that ”best case scenarios” are what we continue to hear from my care team. As Dr. Martin told us in the beginning, because of my mammogram we caught this before it got out of control, it is treatable and I am going to be okay. I am and will continue to beat this cancer! 💕💪💕
